User Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Who's it for?

This course is suitable for engineers who want to create high quality, feature based CAD models from scanned data in the form of .STL files and point clouds as well as other forms of non-parameterized geometry. Using the latest reverse engineering and polygon modelling tools alongside more traditional modelling tools such as surfacing, curve creation and synchronous technology.  Polygon modelling tools will be used to directly manipulate, repair and edit convergent bodies of either scanned data or convergent bodies that are output directly from a generative design/topology optimization process.

Course Agenda:

  • Importing data
  • Repairing mesh geometry
  • Smoothing mesh geometry
  • Identifying primitive topology
  • Fit surface and rapid surface tools
  • Face curvature analysis and deviation gauges
  • Aligning mesh geometry
  • Mesh morphing
  • Re-mesh facet geometry
  • Point sets, fit curves and basic surface tools
  • Trimming, combining and sewing surfaces

Pre-requisites

Minimum 6 months 3D CAD experience or NX Design Essentials course + 3 months.
