Breaking free from the label ‘3D CAD software’ the release of Solid Edge firmly positions it as a digital suite with which to gain greater control over the whole development process.

With more options and better tools, Solid Edge ST10 is a significant step up in terms of productivity. It provides scope for a greater sense of purpose during the design process and it enables users to modify parts more easily through reverse engineering. It also includes tools that open the way for companies to make the most of additive manufacturing opportunities. In addition, the Solid Edge Portal provides a new means of collaboration.

A tool for the whole development journey

One of the appealing new features is a semi-automated process for creating a sound structure. Users can enter the parameters for a specific material, a design space or envelope along with permissible loads and constraints and the software will compute a reduced-mass geometric solution that maintains structural integrity.

There are new methods for optimizing products for weight, strength and material usage. Easy-to-use tools smooth preparation for FEA simulation, and it does not matter if geometry was created in Solid Edge or another 3D CAD tool. It’s even possible to run multiple weight targets, load cases and constraint scenarios simultaneously.

Accept data from any source to reverse engineer

Solid Edge already accepts product design data from other CAD systems with ease and ST10 handles new styles of data migration. With the wider availability of high-resolution 3D scanners, legacy parts designed on the drawing board can be digitally represented and this type of scanned data can now be brought into Solid Edge and manipulated easily.

Make the most of additive manufacturing

With the new release, it is possible to combine boundary representation modeling with facet modeling to optimize component design for additive manufacturing. From now on it is going to be easier for companies to export models in the right format for 3D printing, either to print parts themselves or to use the growing number of additive manufacturing services.

Software for forward thinking companies

ST10 comes with all the benefits users have come to appreciate about Simultaneous Technology and some additions. It is even simpler to make quick, comprehensive design changes; transfer design detail from one project to another and edit multiple parts in an assembly simultaneously.

Users can quickly create technical publications that are interactive, digital, associative. There are scalable data management solutions, from built-in capabilities based on existing Windows folders to the full PLM capabilities of Teamcenter.

In addition, plug-ins written by the technical team at OnePLM, mean that Solid Edge ST10 can meet the specific needs of different companies, whatever their size and speciality.
